A postcard
written to William Waddelow over 100 years ago was found by
chance by his Great-Great-Grand daughter, Ann Waddelow-Barker at a
Family History Fair at the Woodgreen animal shelter in Godmanchester.
Anne said, “I’m just so amazed that out of the
hundreds of postcards they had, we should have picked this one up.
We saw it was from Wilburton where my great-great-grandfather lived,
and were considering whether we really wanted to pay £5 for it, but
when we turned it over and saw the name it was just priceless to
us”.
“It’s
one thing having names and statistics but I really want to have
memorabilia from the last two
or three generations if at all possible,
she said.
The
message reads: “If I am able to bike tomorrow
we propose coming
up to breakfast as it does not seem worthwhile
lighting our fire.” Mrs. Waddelow-Barker added
“It’s a most peculiar
message and I have absolutely no idea who Harold, the man who signed the
postcard, was”
